06 Oct Clark comments on charges being laid in connection with death of Serenity

October 6, 2017 (Calgary) Alberta Party Leader Greg Clark has released the following statement regarding recent charges in connection to the death of Serenity:

“I’m glad to see charges have finally been laid, but I still have questions as to why it took so long. We still don’t have clear answers about what went wrong, and we cannot wait for a fatality inquiry to provide those answers.

I would like to see some assurances, backed by evidence that changes have been made, to ensure prosecutions related to the abuse or death of children in care are not delayed.

None of this will bring Serenity back, and there is still a lot of work to do to ensure this never happens again. I look forward to continuing the work of the Ministerial Panel on Child Intervention as we recommend changes that will improve the lives of children in care, and prevent children from falling into care in the first place.”
