26 May Clark: Poor choices by the NDP have led to yet another credit rating downgrade

May 26, 2017 (Calgary) Alberta Party Leader Greg Clark has released the following statement regarding today’s credit rating downgrade:

“Budgets are about choices,” said Clark. “This government has shown they lack the ability to make the hard decisions necessary to keep our provincial finances on track.”

“Alberta used to have the best credit rating in the country, but thanks to the choices made by the NDP, our credit rating has continued to drop.”

“Our debt servicing costs were already forecast to be $2.3 billion per year. These interest payments will not go to front-line healthcare, kids in the classroom, or helping our most vulnerable neighbours.”

“The Alberta Party has long argued that our province needs to get off the resource revenue roller coaster.  The NDP are simply crossing their fingers and hoping oil prices go up, and are fooling themselves and Albertans if they think this represents responsible budgeting.”

“True leadership ensures spending stays in line with the economy without cutting front-line services. Albertans expect and deserve better from their government.”
