November 19, 2018 (Edmonton) – On behalf of the Alberta Party Caucus, MLA Greg Clark is standing with all Ukrainian Albertans in order to commemorate Holodomor.
“Today, we commemorate the terrible chapter of Ukrainian Holomodor, a Famine-Genocide that took place between 1932-1933 which was the leading cause of millions of untimely deaths due to starvation.”
“Holomodor was a systematic attempt to destroy Ukrainian ways of life by the planned starvation of women, men, and children. This attempt was ultimately unsuccessful, however it has left a large blot on this chapter of human history, especially under the Soviet regime.”
“The Alberta Party Caucus stands with the victims of the Holodomor and all those who have suffered as a result of their parents and grandparents living during this time, to remember the depths that humanity is capable of going. For those of us who share Ukrainian heritage we need to set the standard and always ensure to educate our friends and neighbours on this historical state planned tragedy and to condemn hatred, racism, violence, and oppression in all its forms.”
“Today, above many others we need to take the time to remember the past so that we can learn from it and commit to being on guard against this type of monstrous behaviour ever again. While remembering does not ease the pain of those who have lost, it is our only hope to fighting for generations to come to ensure this does not happen again.”
