November 15, 2017 (Edmonton) – The Alberta Party Caucus is pleased to see Bill 24 pass third reading today.

“This Bill reflects modern Alberta values,” said Alberta Party MLA Karen McPherson. “The rights of LGBTQ people have been minimized for too long. It’s easy to do what’s right, which is why I am so proud to support Bill 24.”

Alberta Party Caucus leader Greg Clark said the UCP’s opposition to the Bill caters to the extreme elements in their party.

“It is amazing to me that in Alberta, in 2017, the UCP thinks it’s okay to oppose LGBTQ rights,” said Clark. “It never was, and it certainly isn’t today. Their arguments against the Bill are way off base, and were only cover for the real reason for their opposition. Many UCP members question the rights of LGBTQ people and Jason Kenny and the UCP MLAs didn’t want to offend their base.

“This Bill is about helping kids. It should be up to them and only them to disclose their sexuality when they want, to whom they want.”
